What are Varicose Veins?
Veins, a type of blood vessel, sends deoxygenated blood from other parts of the body to the heart and lungs. When veins enlarge they appear raised or knotted and turn dark blue or purple in color. When this happens the veins become varicosed. These rope-like veins can appear anywhere in the body in both men and women. But generally varicose veins occur in the legs and most commonly affect women. Some factors, like pregnancy and prolonged standing can increase the risk of varicose veins.
